Mark Hershey Feeds sponsored a free evening at Harrisburg for their employees. It included supper at John Harris' historical home, and a ride on the Pride of the Susquehanna; a riverboat. So this is how Karl and I spent our Saturday evening.
John Harris founded Harrisburg which is now Pennsylvania's capitol. His home is owned by the Historical Society and is open for tours or you can rent it for catering dinners.
If it wasn't for a loyal servant and some friendly Indians, there wouldn't be a Harrisburg today. The story goes that some rowdy Indians wanted John Harris to give them some whiskey. Since he wouldn't indulge them, they tied him to a stake to burn him. The loyal servant ran off to find some friendly Indians who came and rescued John.
After a delicious meal, we went down to the riverbank and boarded a "steamboat" which actually ran by diesel engines.
This is a 150 year-old pear tree in the front yard.
The annual Peach Party was held again this year. My mom and dad couldn't make it this year, so some of my friends came along to pick peaches. We had a peachy time!
These baby birds reminded me of my family
when I make peach pie or peach crisp!
