"The mountains are calling and I must go"

John Muir sums it up pretty well when he said,
"the mountains are calling and I must go."  He was a naturalist and an early advocate of preservation of wilderness in the United States.
So off to the mountains of Grand Canyon PA we go!
Come along with us!.....

Two girls and a creek...you have to jump in and get wet!

Queenie would now like to demonstrate the "dog paddle".
(note: if you are viewing this on
mobile device it probably won't play)

Queenie says the water tasted yummy!

Our two adventurers decided to
find a "different" way back to the top!

One of my trusty walking sticks.....

"I love scenery. My, here some time ago I was hunting up in the mountains, not so much for the game, I was just up to get away.
I just love the mountains. My mother's a half Indian, and it's just enough about it I love the wilds and I can't get out of it. And so, I can see a sunset and cry like a baby."

A Wonderful Week

Something in a tree, watching wildlife, cookies, a peek into Nathan's job, and a runaway balloon.  Wanna see our Week?

Wonder why Queenie is looking so excited?

And what is Faith trying to do?

Queenie 'treed' this groundhog up our tree!

This morning I was so excited to see the hummingbirds!

Then I got interrupted by the squirrel and rabbit who makes themselves right at home.

We went to the open house at Mark Hershey Farms.....

Would you like to see where
Nathan spends a lot of his time.........

Here in the "control" room.
Does that mean he has it all under control?

Faith says come on in and we'll mix you up some special feed.

Here's the kind of feed I like!
I thought it was neat how the caterer displayed the cookies.
We also had roast beef, chicken, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, corn pudding, and rolls.

Here's Faith at Daddy's truck.

Here goes a lost balloon....free as a bird.

Having a wonderful week reminds me of this wonderful song!

What a wonderful thing
A wonderful thing,
To be saved from sin
And have peace within;
To be made a joint heir,
With Jesus my King,
What a wonderful, wonderful thing!

Date Night and Peach Party

Mark Hershey Feeds sponsored a free evening at Harrisburg for their employees.  It included supper at John Harris' historical home, and a ride on the Pride of the Susquehanna; a riverboat.  So this is how Karl and I spent our Saturday evening.
John Harris founded Harrisburg which is now Pennsylvania's capitol.  His home is owned by the Historical Society and is open for tours or you can rent it for catering dinners.
If it wasn't for a loyal servant and some friendly Indians, there wouldn't be a Harrisburg today.  The story goes that some rowdy Indians wanted John Harris to give them some whiskey.  Since he wouldn't indulge them, they tied him to a stake to burn him.  The loyal servant ran off to find some friendly Indians who came and rescued John.
After a delicious meal, we went down to the riverbank and boarded a "steamboat" which actually ran by diesel engines.

This is a 150 year-old pear tree in the front yard.

The annual Peach Party was held again this year.  My mom and dad couldn't make it this year, so some of my friends came along to pick peaches.  We had a peachy time!

These baby birds reminded me of my family
when I make peach pie or peach crisp!

Here comes mama with the peach pie! (oops I mean worms)

Peach Partners!

"And I think today we come to the Church to find Jesus, and we find our programs in the stead of the Spirit of Christ. See? If we went to a peach orchard, we'd expect to find peaches, "
