Elk Country!

We left for a quick trip to elk country to see and hear the elk.  This is their mating season so they were roaming around and the bull elk were bugling.  These elk were in the wild; not in caged areas or fences.  The leaves were turning those beautiful fall colors and the mornings were foggy.  That made for some spectacular scenery!  If you've never heard an elk bugle in the wild, I recommend going to Benezette PA and experiencing it.

On our way!

Check out this castle house someone built!  It was along the road on our way to elk country.

I spotted the first one!  I was so excited!  This big guy was resting down in the trees along the road.  Karl did the fastest turn around in his truck that I ever experienced.  haha
We went back to take pictures of him.

There were herds of them out in open fields.

You had to be careful because they were crossing roads too.

They would cut across people's back yards!

This girl was eating apples that had fallen
on the ground next to the road.

They would suddenly appear out of the fog.....

A great place to eat elk burgers.

Eagles nest!

This guy decided to cut across someones driveway.

We could see them scattered throughout the woods.

A young bull with his velvet still on his antlers.

Our home for one night.  Yes it was cold but we stayed cozy in the tent....I won't tell you how many blankets I brought.  haha

So long Smoky the bear!

"And the great elk herd that I was trying to get in to, they'd been separated during the storm, and I could hear the big bulls bugling. Oh, there's something about it that just puts something alive in you, to hear them fellows bugle; have a great respect for them." 61-0410 Bro. Branham

Scenes from September

What a busy but fun month!  Faith started the month out by joining the Fiber club in 4-h where she is learning to spin wool.

Her group went to a farm where they were having "old-fashioned" days and they had to dress "colonial."  There were demonstrations of all kinds of things.  This farm has been there since the 1700's.

There was this guy that carved walking sticks and he also had these interesting spoons on display.  See the heart spoon?  That originated from Ireland.  The story goes if a girl accepted this spoon from her beau then she has accepted his proposal to marriage.

Look at those wolves' heads!

This guy was making wooden buckets.

She was making brooms.

Lunch was cooking over this fire.  Homemade vegetable soup!

Karl enjoyed looking at the old farm equipment.

Speaking of Karl,  he celebrated his Jubilee Birthday this month!
Guess who came to visit and decorate our yard!

Karl was blessed to be born on the same day as a Jubilee tape preached in Tuscon 50 years ago.  When we went out there in June, I took his picture in front of the church where Bro. Branham preached it.  If you look in your Jubilee book, you will see the same picture.(without Karl in it)

Faith went to an Alpaca farm to demonstrate spinning and weaving with Alpaca fiber.

For Karl's birthday he we took us  him to a truck pull and drag race.

Up next is our homeschool trip to a Wolf Sanctuary.  They take in wolves that need to be rescued from being put down.

Ever hear a wolf howl?
"And I'd just been weeping. I looked over and seen that rainbow, and I said, "O God, listen at my heart pound when I hear that wolf holler yonder. There's something about it I love."

Loving God's Nature

"I tell you; you won't go wrong as
long as you love nature, 'cause God's in nature."

The hummingbird came back for another visit.  They are so beautiful!  The second picture he decided to show off and stretch his wings for me!

This goat was watching Karl unload feed at a farm.  The pony wasn't watching us.  He was more interested in finding tiny blades of grass to nibble.

In the 26 years I've lived in Pennsylvania, I don't think I've ever seen a field of sorghum.  It was so beautiful!  The short stalks actually look like corn stalks with leaves.

While we were out on our Sunday afternoon walk, out stepped a turkey.  Do you see her bashful friend hiding in the bushes?

She reassures the fawn that it is safe to come out and visit.  I was walking toward them while taking pictures and they were walking towards me!  It was a magical moment!

Here are some unusual looking mushrooms growing on a log in the woods where we were hiking.
