There was a little flooding going on while we were there.  The 'cricks' were overflowing!  We went across the road to see a covered bridge and I got distracted along the way taking pictures of old buildings.  Can you just hear the congregation singing "In the Sweet By and By" in this old church?

I think Dad was ready to open revival services until he saw all the hay stacked in there.  :o)

We seen a couple of places that raised fighting roosters.

We surprised Granny.  She was getting in some kindling for her woodstove.  She's 85 and still going strong!

Let me tell you a love story about this old water pump.  Years ago a young boy was picking up some tobacco plants from a local farmer.  While waiting  along the road for his dad to pick him up, he saw a pretty girl come outside the farmhouse to throw out the dish water.  He came up with an excuse to go meet her.  He quickly dumped out his water jug, and went up to ask her if he could fill his jug at this pump.  
That's how my dad met my mom and he knew he would marry her someday.  So 50 years later they went back to the old farmstead and got this pump to put in their yard as a memorial of how they met.

Meet my Dad, a missionary.  He loves to tell others about the Lord and this message.  So he came up with a unique way of handing out books and tracts.  He has this 1950 car that he takes to car shows in the area.  The car attracts people and while they are checking out the car, my dad pops open the "boot"  (trunk) and offers them a book.   A trunk full of treasures!

Since Dad uses this car to serve the Lord, the Lord gave a him a wonderful testimony to tell people.  One day as he was driving along, he heard this ticking sound.  So he pulled off and opened the hood while the engine was running to check it out.  Suddenly he felt a hand forcibly push his face over and at that instance a piece of the metal fan blade went flying past his face and brushed his ear then landed 100 feet in the field!  If that guardian angel hadn't pushed his head over that blade would have embedded into his face. Thank the Lord for His protection.

My sister-n-law made us some acorn bread while we were there and it was good.

So Much to Thank Him For

The Lord blessed us with a beautiful snowfall just in time for 

Thanksgiving Day.

Though our sins be as scarlet, they are white as snow.

This year during Thanksgiving week, Karl and I celebrated our 

25th Wedding anniversary.

We took an Indian with us to Grandma's house for

Thanksgiving meal.

Here we are at Grandma's house.  She was just taking the food out of the oven.  It was all very yummy!

While we were there for Thanksgiving, Mom and Pop gave us this balloon and a cake for our anniversary.

Grandma has these cute lil' bears with the great-grandchildren and the grandchildren's names written on them.

Trying out the SmokeHouse

Fall Season is upon us again here at Eagles Nest.  Even though that means Winter is right around the corner, there is beauty all around us with the fall colors.  

With Fall comes the mood of smoking meat.  So Karl cleaned out the old smokehouse and I got to try it out for the first time.  I just did 3 pieces of chicken for the trial run.  It turned out great and I am now ready to smoke a turkey....or maybe some deer meat.

Instead of dreading the oncoming winter,  I've been trying to focus on the beautiful colors all around us here.  It's amazing the colors that God puts into each individual leaf.  

A pathway into the front yard.

Here is my darling dogwood that I brought with me from the farm.  It was a seedling under the other trees.  Even though the rabbits ate it last winter it has made a tremendous comeback!  This winter I plan on covering it and hiding it from the rabbits!

          "Did you ever notice a tree? It will put forth its leaf, and then it serves its time through the summer. Autumn comes. Way before the frost falls, that leaf begins to turn yellow, red, brown. After while it drops off the tree, falls down. Is that the end of it? No. What happens? The life that was in that leaf goes back to the root of the tree where it comes from. What does it do then? Spring of the year it brings forth with it, in a resurrection, a new leaf same life returning back with a new leaf.
And Christians are hanging on the Tree of Life. And when the life leaves this old sinful body, it goes back to the God that gives it, to come forth again with a new one, because it's serving a purpose."

Here is an experiment that I started with my rosemary plants.  I twisted a clothes hanger into a heart shape and hopefully I will end up with a rosemary topiary.
