Faith and Fiber Arts

Faith joined the Fiber Arts club in 4-H this year and is really enjoying herself.  She has learned how to wash a fleece, card the fleece, spin it on her spinning wheel, and now the newest addition is weaving on a loom.
Her club is going to a competition at the State Farm Show in January, so they have started their practice sessions.  Since we have the loom here, they all come here to practice.
Everyone can help card, including Faith, the weaver.  There are 2 spinning wheels going and one plyer spinning.  (that's when they take two bobbins of spun yarn and spin those two together to make it thicker).
They have only 2 and 1/2 hours to card, spin, and weave a shawl.  At this first session it took them 4 hours which is good considering there are 3 new members.
We should stay warm this winter with all the practice shawls we are accumulating!

The 4-H leader brought Faith a tabletop loom to try.

Faith carded a bunch of fleece that Lillia gave her and started spinning it.  It's so soft!

PROVERBS 31:19
She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
(a distaff is a stick that holds the carded fiber while the spinner pulls it to go through the spinning wheel)
Faith needs a distaff to hold all that
carded fleece instead of laying it in her lap!

It was so neat one day to see Karl drive by our house
 in his feed truck!

Stay tuned!  Up next: a road trip to Alabama and
NEW NEIGHBORS!
(and maybe a tour of their house)

Sliding through the Summer

We've been 'sliding right through the summer' by keeping busy with a trip to Arizona, working on Nathan's house, visits from friends, a quick hike, open house at Mark Hershey, fair time, peaches and apples, Still Waters, (whew!)  and the list goes on.
So hang on, count to three, and let's goooooo........

Some sweet music from Hannah....

Gettin those tumbleweeds out of the way!

Here's what happens when you walk around outside in AZ!
Goatheads!

Kyle reading a book to Pappa

A crop duster airplane was flying low over Hannah's house.
Kyle was so excited to watch it!

Faith enjoyed watching Bethany show her goats at the fair!
Good job Bethany!

Faith enjoyed a bologna sandwich on a pretzel bun.  Yum!

Faith entered her crochet items at the fair.

Visits from Laurisa this summer.....
Happy happy!

Taking a hike with Queenie and Faith....
Queenie does not like the water haha

Are you still hanging on as we slide through the summer?

Finally off to Still Waters!!!

Waiting for the van to come and take them to Still Waters!

Cousin Crew!

I found this in the cupboard while Faith was gone.....

Wedding shower for Laurisa.....
Grandma Brandt made the beautiful wedding gown cake.

Laurisa's mother surprised her and came to the shower.
We had a wonderful visit with her!

Laurisa made this sign for our favors table at the shower.
Everyone got to take home a bag of caramel corn.
A big storm came through at Nathan's house and destroyed two huge trees in his front yard!
Thank the Lord they didn't land on the house!

Open house night at Mark Hersey Farms.

Peach Pickin' time!

Apple pickin' time!

Faith and I made a quick trip to Kitchen Kettle Village
They were making fudge in this copper kettle.

Faith loves to collect nutcrackers.

On the way home she almost jumped from the car when she spotted these huge bucks!
We were passing by a deer farm.

Faith's been keeping busy weaving on her loom.
It's relaxing to hear her throw the shuttle back and forth....

Even though our summer seems to be moving by so swiftly, we are having a great summer here at the
Eagles Nest!
